Throughout a young person’s childhood, their appearance plays a pivotal role in how they view themselves and fashion is a way for a child to express themselves to the world. Stone Island Clothing provides a child with the opportunity to present themselves in a stylish way, whilst still being in keeping with their youthful side. Being an Italian Designer brand, the clothing designs are laced with Italian fashion heritage so young people can achieve that classic look, similar to that attained by the Menswear Collection.

The Origins

Originating from Sportswear Company (SPW) based in Bologna, Stone Island Children’s range is reflective of the rich culture of this region of Italy as the garments pose such a statement look. Set up by Massimo Osti in 1982, this Italian designer intended for the line to be a secondary branch to the main C.P Company label and aimed to provide quality apparel to the younger generation with the children’s range. While working as a graphic designer in Bologna in the early 1970’s, Osti showed promise for his creative vision when he designed a line of custom graphic t-shirts using the atypical silk-screening technique, with remarkable success. This fueled a lifelong passion for design and innovation which helped generate the Stone Island Children’s range you see today.

The Brand Evolution

As with any successful brand, Stone Island has advanced in their creations whilst still preserving the integrity of the original designs. One feature of the Stone Island Junior garment is the attractive compass patch that can be buttoned onto the upper part of the left sleeve that originally, were green edged. However, from the year 2000, the badge evolved to be lined with black edging. This was intended to give a striking surrounding to the iconic patch. Around the time of the new millennium, the brand also emerged with the rarer ‘white badges’ which were only attached to certain jackets. Though uncommon, this choice of patch remained popular and so, it still appears on limited edition jackets now.
